I had to share an article I stumbled upon yesterday. It barely scratches the surface, but it does briefly discus the real cost of high heel beauty.
After spending a Saturday night watching women in towering stilettos walk around like Bambi on a frozen pond, it isn’t news to hear that those shoes can damage your feet. But, for the first time, podiatrists have been able to see the actual deformities caused by high heels, and they’re “more complicated” than previously believed. After studying a 3-D scan of a heel-wearing woman’s foot, orthopedic surgeon Andy Goldberg was shocked to see the way the bones in the toes were being dislocated and potentially deformed. These changes can cause bunions and clawed toes, and affect the way the foot bends. However, the news might not make a huge difference for patients’ footwear choices, Goldberg said. ”People don’t like doctors saying, ‘Your shoes are a problem,’” he said. “If I suggest they buy themselves some comfy shoes, I’m liable to get punched in the face.” [Source]
